April 13, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Soccer Club Saints as its newest Division I member.
Based in Cottage Grove, MN, SC Saints will begin UPSL play in the 2020 Spring Season as part of the Midwest Conference West Division I. The club will host its home games at Park High School (8040 80th Street South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016) in compliance with UPSL National Division I standards.
United Premier Soccer League Midwest Conference Manager Carlos Torres said, "We're excited by the addition of SC Saints to the UPSL's Midwest Conference. The Saints are a strong force in their community. They have a growing following in Minnesota and a great future ahead. Eliseo Hernandez directs his club with great spirit and great effort. He knows the Minnesota soccer scene. He's looked reality in the eye and he's doing something about it. We're excited to see the Saints become a proud member of the UPSL."
SC Saints was created in 2017 and has previously played in the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL) among others. The club will now compete exclusively in the UPSL.
"The Club has developed a strong identity within Minnesota State lines and looks to expand to the National Level. We feel like it's the right time to move our athletes into the UPSL to increase player development. We want to grow the athletes of tomorrow and the only way we know how is by facing the best teams possible. Currently the UPSL is the fastest-growing Pro Development league in the world and incorporates a pro/rel system. No other National League in the U.S. currently has that in place," SC Saints Director Eliseo Hernandez said.
The club will begin play when the UPSL resumes the 2020 Spring Season.
