March 8, 2021 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Seas Jamaica United FC's Akinni James has been selected UPSL Young Player of the Season.

James, 18, led all UPSL players with 24 goals during the 2020 Fall Season. The UPSL Young Player Award will be given to one exceptional young player, aged 16-18, per season.

Seas Jamaica United FC Owner David Largie said, "Akinni really deserves the recognition. He's been an outstanding player for us this season and he really pushed our guys to play better to get him the ball so he could so his thing. He's worked especially hard and been good about all the coaching I've given him because I know he can be a special player in a big league. He has real potential to be a big-time professional player."

As the season progressed James was consistently marked by three defenders but Seas Jamaica advanced to the Georgia Division playoff final, losing 1-0 to Ginga Atlanta, the eventual UPSL National Champion, on Dec. 19.

"I was lucky to find Seas Jamaica United FC and the UPSL," James said. "I started out with a good performance in our very first game and I just went forward from there. I've received a lot of exposure from playing in the UPSL this season. I'm very happy about that and I hope it can slingshot me to a professional contract.

"I think this experience has been very helpful for me as a player because I got to play with a lot of different types of players - this roster was changing quite often - and I had to adapt to the situations. and I think I gained a lot of experience from this season in many ways. I had to adapt to the physicality and I think this experience has helped me a lot," James said.

James was a two-time recipient of the UPSL Player of the Week during the 2020 Fall Season for Seas Jamaica United FC (11-1-4 overall), which never dipped below fourth in an outstanding second campaign in the UPSL Georgia Division.
