February 24, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Escondido Mayas FC as its newest member.

Based in Escondido, CA, Escondido Mayas FC is a registered non-profit organization in the State of California, and will begin UPSL play in the 2020 Spring Season as part of the Western Conference SoCal South Division. The club will host its UPSL home games at Orange Glen High School (2200 Glenridge Road, Escondido, CA 92027) in compliance with UPSL National Division standards.

United Premier Soccer League West Coast Director Gary Brunner said, "We're excited to welcome Escondido Mayas FC to the UPSL's SoCal South Division. After so many years of the San Diego market lying dormant, the whole area is just blossoming now. Escondido Mayas FC is a club that's been around for more than 20 years, generating its own generational culture and following, and they're well respected in that community. Owner Alex Garcia and Head Coach Jorge Pina have a good staff and team in place and they'll be ready to compete. We wish Escondido Mayas FC luck as it prepares for its first UPSL season."

Escondido Mayas FC was created in 1995 and has played in numerous leagues and tournaments around San Diego County and Southern California. The club will now compete exclusively in the UPSL.

Alex Garcia is Owner of Escondido Mayas FC. Born and raised in Escondido, Garcia is a graduate of Escondido High School and is a local business owner.

"We chose the UPSL for its competitive level and for its outstanding organization and structure as a USASA National League. Escondido Mayas FC is committed to helping young adults through our club by staying engaged at the Pro Development level. As an organization we feel the UPSL is the right league for our players to develop to their full potential and hopefully take the next step into a professional career," Garcia said.

Jorge Pina will serve as Head Coach for Escondido Mayas FC. Pina played at San Marcos, CA's Palomar College and professionally in Mexico's second division. He coached last season with San Diego White Tigers FC, the UPSL SoCal South Division champions. Daniel Islas and Marcel Bejarano are Pina's assistants.

Escondido Mayas FC are six-time Copa Univision champions (2002, '03, '04, '12, '13, '16) and won Copa Bud Light San Diego in 2017. Most recently, Escondido Mayas FC has participated in the North County Community Soccer League.

The club will soon announce its upcoming game schedule.

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining UPSL National League minimum standards.

UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league's affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
